Octavia Nasr
The idea of being able to talk to CNN’s senior editor of Middle East affairs without any issues, taboos or time restraint seem almost too good to be true. But not with Octavia Nasr, an amazing lady, a successful and renoun journalist, and a source of endless support for all the Lebanese tweeps and bloggers.
I remember very well the day she mobilized her twitter account to help us spread the world about a blood donation campaign for a dear mutual friend, and the day she featured on CNN, Lebanon Laique Pride March and 2 of the most amazing photographers Fadi and Liliane.. (it is a big deal if your photos are on a CNN website — at least that is what I used to think).
The Twitter Queen as her colleagues at CNN and the tweeps call her, has always been a source of inspiration, support and information, Credible information that is. And meeting her for the first time in Social Media day not so far back, made me even more aware on how amazing she is. We were over 30 person at that dinner, and Octavia knew us one by one, and almost everything about us: Our tweeting habits, our blogs, our photos and activities. She was down to earth with her usual charming smile… We discussed life, society, Lebanon, USA, and even our small revolutions…

But now, Octavia is no longer CNN’s senior editor of Middle East affairs and I don’t want to go into the details of the “why”, However she will always be :
- A leader in integrating social media with news-gathering and reporting
- A credible and honest source of information
- A source of support to whomever around her
- Our Twitter Queen
Octavia, as liliane said in her post:
“ما بيوقع إلا الشاطر. You shall emerge strong again. You got us all Lebanese twittersphere behind you. #justsayin. We love you. “

I can only see one winner from this story. Octavia, you’re bigger than CNN, a company who erases 20 years of loyalty with 140 characters or less, is not worth your talent!
